How Slowgram came to be:
Hi! We're Brad and Katy!
In 2024, life threw us a curveball when Katy’s mom, Shelley, passed away unexpectedly. Shelley was the queen of card-sending—every birthday, holiday, and random Tuesday came with a thoughtful, funny, handwritten note from her. Losing her reminded us of the importance of gratitude, connection, and a healthy dose of silliness. Slowgram is our small attempt to fill the void.
Katy always wanted to follow in her mom’s footsteps, but let’s face it: stamps, cards, and envelopes have a way of disappearing when you need them. So, we combined Katy’s newfound love for watercolor painting, Brad’s knack for solving problems, and our shared "talent" for cringe-worthy puns to create Slowgram—a system that makes sending heartfelt cards ridiculously easy.
Slowgram isn’t just a business for us; it’s a tribute to Shelley and her legacy of love, laughter, and connection.
How we came up with the name:
First came tele... then came insta... and now, Slowgram. It came about one night full of laughter with friends. We were all lamenting how fast life moves and how fleeting our connections can be. One friend casually said, “I don’t need Instagram,” and before we knew it, we all chimed in unison, “You need Slowgram.” The idea for the business came later, but we love how the name honors Shelley—aka Gram—and we’re sure she would approve.
“How lucky are we?” is a phrase one of these dear friends always says, and it’s become our motto for life—and for Slowgram. The fact that the name and business concept came together so perfectly was all the reassurance we needed to bring Slowgram to life.
About us:
We’re Brad and Katy—partners in life, parenting, and business. We share an undeniable love for tacos, travel, sarcasm, and the kind of jokes that make our kids and friends roll their eyes. (The worse the pun, the better.)
Brad is a PhD in Materials Engineering turned stay-at-home dad and part-time consultant. He’s the full-time idea guy behind Slowgram. Katy is a Seattle-based real estate agent who thrives on connecting with people—whether it’s finding the perfect home or turning the group chat into a comedy routine. Together, we do our best to live authentically and laugh often.
We’re passionate about creating a kinder, more equitable world. We believe in everyone’s right to love who they love, live as their authentic selves, and make their own choices. As a family, we proudly support causes like Planned Parenthood, equitable education, and global opportunities for children. (For our wedding, we raised money to build schools in remote villages in Nepal—it’s just a little part of our heart for giving back.)
